Challenges, Solutions & Performance Outcomes 3
Challenge #3
Roll out multi-site VPP certifications with limited onsite resources and expertise.
Three companies are profiled
- Company 1 was under-resourced. A number of the sites were small and lacked the resources and expertise to develop the systems and culture VPP required on their own. Yet, for the process to create “real” results the corporate staff realized that they could only encourage and support the individual sites, not create it for them.
- Company 2 was not leveraging knowledge across all their locations. Corporate EHS provided tools and a repeatable process to the individual sites that chose to step up to the VPP challenge. They needed to enable the sites to create the systems and culture needed but avoid unnecessarily long startup times and duplication of efforts from site to site.
- Company 3 needed a robust quality control process for safety management. Before opening themselves up for an OSHA VPP certification review, they had to find a way to ensure their methods met VPP certification standards.
Solution Description
Provide a means for the sites to competently benchmark to VPP model; provide a systematic process to develop and deploy a comprehensive SMS with 100% on-demand employee access to standard policies and procedures; foster accountability, leadership and ownership by managing with leading and trailing metrics with performance displayed monthly on corporate dashboards.
Performance Outcome
VPP STAR Certification of all 3 companies in 50% of time originally expected to bring sites up to STAR standards of performance.
